a while ago about testing flares and whatnot. A comments about SOS lights was that they don't stand out very well and interference from waves, etc., plus most people not knowing what ... --- ... means, left the lights of pretty doubtful value.
Another thing -- the Sirius light claims to be visible 10 miles -- but that means it needs to be at a considerable elevation if it's to be visible from another "small" boat.
