Although that may be personally subjective. It's all gone. Now I can clearly see the meeting plane - the bottom edge of the coamings and cabin back - of the new cockpit.
Right now, I'm cleaning (wire brushing, vaccuming) the glass hull for paint, and misc repairs, etc. The 3rd support beam and posts (see the pads glassed to the hull-aft?), were rotted and now in the shop to pattern a replacement. That and the other bases will be re glassed and reinforced to the hull(plus some reinforcing-extra support, the old post-beam system is marginal, I think).
Those 3 horizontal beams carry the sole of the new cockpit. The middle beam is key with the manhole just forward and the binnacle just aft. I have to be sure those 3 are in the same plane and at perfect distance from the flange.
Next is to install the ledge to the bottom of the coamings and cabin back. Right now, I think a 1 1/2" square piece of straight grained Fir with a 3/4" square rabbet cut out of a corner will form the 'L' shaped ledge that will be the landing pad of the 3/4" Fir plywood flange of the new cockpit.
Lots to do and I'm not in a huge hurry to install the new cockpit(which still needs a few details like some caulking, installing sole, etc). I won't remove the varnish on the coamings and cabin back until the new cockpit is installed.
This is the time when I start a 'defer until next season',... list. The list, could be quite long by June 1.
