We were supposed to be part of a video production/commercial this Sunday for a new hotel opening on the bayfront. One of the selling features is that many of the rooms have private patios or balconies right on the water. Our part was to sail serenely past on the bay, blue sky and white sails.............ahhhh, peace, quiet, a picture of relaxation.
Change of plans. The video production crew has rescheduled us for next Sunday which also happens to be the weekend of the annual poker run for the go-fast boys and their fire breathers. The center of all this is about 200 yards East of where we would be sailing serenely, at the other hotel on the bayfront. The basin there is home to 50+ high performance boats that will be running the bay (no speed limit) and headed east to points in New York State where they will pick up their poker hands, returning to the basin at the other hotel. The surrounding area will be vendors, displays, jet ski acrobatics, wet t-shirt contests and the usual poker run circus with photo helicopters and chase boats.
I just reminded the production crew and organizer from the new hotel of the "other" things going on next weekend and politely declined to take part in the shoot. Mixing 50 boats going 100 miles an hour, jest skis doing acrobatics and a 27 foot hunter just seems like a bad idea.
