tomorrow is project day (again)

The new fresh water pressure pump was delivered, hopefully it will be a direct plumbing swap with a couple of electrical connections.

In true jinx mode, we took the boat out on the lake last Sunday. The jib furler worked flawlessly, the sail rolled in and out easily, the main sail furler not so much. Winds were light for the first time in a month so we took the opportunity to unroll the main all the way out. I thought I had done that at the dock the day before but in my excitement of repairing the jib furler I must have not paid attention and left the last 2" or so of the main rolled in. While out and about on the lake we noticed some baggyness had formed at the tack. Not huge, but noticeable, almost like the sail was not quite all the way up the foil by just a couple of inches. Heading back into the bay we discovered the main was jammed all the way out. In the mean time both the boat traffic and the wind had picked up so we were bucking the traffic jam of powerboats headed out to the beach and an uncooperative sail. We headed off to starboard out of the main channel to do some investigating and found that the bagginess was just enough to allow the luff tape on the tack of the sail to jam the slot by the furling drum. By the time we were tied up in the slip the onshore breeze was on our beam and had kicked up enough to make unrolling the main a bad idea. If the weather cooperates I'll get that done tomorrow and add tension to the main halyard. According to others in the club there is a very fine line between under and over tensioning the main halyard, literally 1-2" of tension can have an impact on the furling system. The big issue is supposed to be having the main halyard too tight, I guess I went too loose?

This has been a learning experience for sure, I'm hoping that once we get used to the system it will be more dependable. We have discussed a plan B, if we find the main stuck all the way out and we are unable to clear the track, I'm just going to release the main halyard, pull it down and stuff the sail through the companionway hatch. There are no battens to fight with so it should work.
