On Sunday the 17th we went from Stonington CT to Cuttyhunk. We had SW winds which made for easy sailing. We started in 5-7 knots flying the #1 genoa from the sprit, but I struck that sail (and tied it to the deck with bungee) when the wind came up above 12 knots and we unfurled our working genoa. We encountered some heavy patches of fog starting near Point Judith RI.
About 4 hours of that trip was in conditions like this. It was like a white wall. Drops of condensation fell from the rigging. (The image doesn't show scale, but the visibility was about 50 yards here):
With our 28 foot beam things are a little tight for us inside Cuttyhunk , so we anchor outside the harbor near the west side jetty (never when a northerly is in the forecast). Looking south the fog lifted a bit for this shot at about 5:21PM:
We ate dinner aboard and decided to launch the dinghy to go ashore. The fog fell again. This picture was taken at 6:25 PM
After we went between the breakwaters in the dinghy we couldn't even see the docks from he nearest moorings about 200 feet away. We went ashore and caught this beautiful and dreary view of the pond on the right side of the road, before reaching Sopranos Pizza. This picture was taken at 6:55PM.
We walked all the way up the hill to the cell tower, and as we came back the fog lifted again. This is the same shot taken about 30 minutes later, at 7:25 PM:

We went back to the boat and were hopeful that the sky would clear for a nice sunset. This picture was taken at about 8 PM:
Overall a very nice day and a good sail. The fog only made it more interesting.
