Do you know if there are new local rules being enforced? Or is it just blatant harassment?

We were visited in Tashmoo by the town marine patrol and they wanted to know how long we planned to stay. (A few years ago they implemented a 3-night anchoring limit.) They dropped off a pamphlet which explained the local ordinances and a lot of helpful local info about contacting harbor police, pumpout, trash etc. They were very polite and friendly, taking care of business but it could not even remotely be construed as harassment. However, I imagine if I had shown a bad attitude they would have had a very different demeanor.

Maybe someone disrespected the authorities in Montauk? I'd like to know more about that story.
