As I said before, SSL, which is the protocol used for pc-to-bank encryption, has been compromised with bad keys.
So it's not always safe to transact over the net. Wifi is particularly vulnerable, because it makes it really easy to steal email passwords, which is a great way to obtain other passwords. Many sites will send an email with your password when you claim to have forgotten it.
The only safe thing is to tell your bank you don't want internet access, and use credit cards (which have a variety of insurance methods) to buy things.
And don't get me started with pcś running windows plagued by viruses and trojans that share your data with financial maffias.
