We left Cape May on Tuesday morning for a run down the outside to Norfolk needing to make Norfolk before the predicted gale came up the coast on Thursday evening.
We made Norfolk but the trip was not fun! Started out with a busted traveler car off of Ocean City, don't know when it broke but discovered one of the 4 wheels on the old Nicro car was gone completely. So jury rigged the traveler so we would at least have a mainsheet even if we couldn't use the traveler. The traveler was on the list of things to replace, didn't have the time or money so it didn't get done.
That was right around noon, at 1530 yours truely started down the companionway steps and in flat seas no wind no unexpected roll I lost my footing and landed with my back on the rounded corner of the galley counter. I was down, couldn't breath or move for what seemed like a long time. My wife thought I had broke a leg as she saw me go and heard a crack. I finally managed to crawl into the cockpit and lay down.
With the coming weather we elected to continue to Norfolk which turned into a motor sail as now I couldn't raise the main never mind reef it later on so as the wind built we unrolled the jib and motor sailed to Norfolk. Made Tidewater Yacht Agency about 26 hours from Cape May got a rental car went to the VA emergency room in Hampton VA. got some good drugs and some x-rays, nothing broken though as much as it hurts to move around I told the doc the x-rays must be wrong. He laughed, I can't it hurts to much.
So we sit on the dock for a day or two then as I can move around enough to motor we'll head for Beaufort.
Hopefully with less fun than we've had!
