Yes; that happened (link) (pic)

Heard them over the radio looking for some Splash Zone to repair it with, and saw the boat in the yard at Cabo being repaired. Don't know what they actually damaged, but guessing it was the fiberglass tube that holds the rudder and bearing, since they were taking on a lot of water. Picture is of my rudder having the bearings replaced, which is the same design-I am actually using a J120 lower bearing. All glass, with upper and lower bearings on SS sleeves. Lower bearing is in a glass tube that has a packing gland just above the static waterline, top bearing is below helmsman seat. If the whale actually broke off the tube that holds the lower rudder, lots of water.
