Federal Board on Geographic Names has approved the name of Salish Sea to describe the interconnected waters of Puget Sound, Strait of Juan De Fucia, and Strait of Georgia in Washington State and British Columbia. Common usage of Wa State inland waters has been Puget Sound which does not agree with the maps or charts of the area. This change was spearheaded by retired WWU Professor Bert Webber. Thanks Bert.
