Each eyepiece is adjustable for your eye -- after that, it's really like a pair of glasses. The range is more like 15' to infinity.

About 11 years ago, I had to send in the glasses because of a bubble in the compass -- Steiner replaced the whole unit with a new model Commander (at no cost) because they said they couldn't get the compass repaired quickly.

While the units are more expensive than they were when originally bought them, they are really a great piece of glass. We also have a 14x Fujicon Image Stabilized binocular (it was a birthday present to me). WHile it has it's place and works as advertised, I haven't found it as useful as the Steiners.
