I would try some 3M Cirtus cleaner. It will completely remove the diesel on the surface. You can remove the citrus cleaner itself with a water rinse. If you still have diesel smell after that you might put a coat of Interlux bilgekote on the surface. If that doesn't work, than replace the wood.
