we anchored out in the mooring field at water island---was very cool---there were some cruise ships, yes, but the attitude was pleasant and friendly and there were folks there who worked in the area and were very helpful-also close to publix market--lol-i will come back to the area when i return.....as for st john----the other side of the island from cruse bay is very different from cruse bay and friendlier to anchoring and moorings.....more isolated and interesting-- ancient ruins are a hike inland and there are sea turtles swimming next to your boat...is coool...excellent for snorkeling and swimming...cruse bay is a necessary evil for checking into the area.......there is an anchorage there to the left of the bay for checking in and out......
