Ships are often anchored here just toward center river of the channel. It's a bit less than a hundred miles to Portland OR and Vancouver WA where ships change cargoes. This area is one to two miles upriver of the bridge. The vantage point enables a view of the river of about 14 miles or so from here to the Columbia bar and Pacific Ocean....on a clear day.
