Here's my Flamingo Bay story...
In Response To: Live-aboard St. Thomas ()

Back in 1989 hurricane Hugo kicked the sh&* out of St Thomas as most of you know. Marshal Law was declared for 30 days after the storm so there was a bunch of stuff all over the place from people just getting on an air plane and flying away. Some of the hotels were blown down and the owners walked away as well. On top of the island above Flamingo bay was a 5 star hotel the really took a hit and after marshal law expired my brother, a friend and I walked up to check it out and in the rubble under a collapsed wall we found the entrance to the wine cellar and liquor storage room. No one was around and it was pretty obvious that nothing was going to happen in the way of restoration. You can guess what happened. I had to sail from island to island on the way to Venezuela to stop for food because there wasn't any room for it on the boat. Three years later I still had some of the Crown Royal still in the purple little velvet bags. The rum and wine went pretty quick so it was hard but we had to learn to drink some really good stuff... well, somebody had to do it!
