Cable layers could get that ... if they dropped a marker buoy and drifted around it for a few days taking multiple sights when trying to recover a cable in mid ocean.... it never happened in the real world...stable platform or not.
Buying a second hand one I reckon the one to get on both counts... best quality and best value... is a Zeiss Freiburger .... bonzer sextants
