I have used a Dremel with a stone and then a tiny ball rasp to get the indentations for the non-skid. Takes a steady hand. One tiny slip and you are through the gel coat. The good news is, if you're careful and use a magnifying glass, once you stand up and take off your glasses, it's difficult to notice even when you know the mistakes are there.
