OCTOPUS is in town for the Big Game, proudly flying the flag of the Caymans…

Had an awesome Super Sunday sail down from Palm Beach yesterday, broad reaching in a gusty 18-20 knots… it was a bit chilly for Florida, but hell, I could be in worse places – back home, to name just one…

Started out keeping a pretty good pace with a Caliber 40, and a large cruising catamaran, but after a while they pulled away when the Caliber began motorsailing… LOL! BTW, it might be noted that both of the engines I’ve bought lately were takeouts from catamarans – what is it with these cat jockeys, that they all need more power? (grin) If that doesn’t draw 2 Hulls Dave out of hibernation, I suppose nothing will…

Arrived in Lauderdale, to see Paul Allen’s OCTOPUS over at the cruise ship port, managed to grab a couple of shots before the police boat chased me off… It’s almost impossible to grasp the scale of this yacht, but the 55’ Merritt sportfish tethered to the swim platform does a fair job of it – that’s about $2 million bucks worth right there, BTW…

So, this is the yacht that Larry Ellison delayed construction on RISING SUN, until he could be certain it would be bigger than OCTOPUS… Hmmm, not sure which would piss me off more – Ellison winning the America’s Cup, or the Seattle Seahawks winning the Super Bowl… (grin)

Best regards,

Jon
