Here's how NOT to test it
In Response To: Inflatable PFD maintenance ()
Do not have a fully armed cat sitting in your lap while your spouse/SO/friend/enermy pulls the cord to inflate the PFD. Felines tend to be a bit startled by the sound and consequently, will draw blood as they launch off the lap in fight-or-flight mode.
Don't ask me how I know this.

- I toss the crew overboard and watch it inflate with a beer in my hand. Far more fun than just pulling the trigger.
