I thought autopilots had finally come of age . . .

guess not.
I remember the days of the BOC and the early Vendee Globe when autopilots were just that. They could steer a boat in benign conditions long enough for a sailor to get some rest or change sails. What the boats really needed was power steering that could handle the boat in any conditions and forever if need be. I believe that eventually happened, tho everybody still carried a boatload of spares.
Too bad Abby has to suffer from this disease. Maybe her autopilot maker didn't get the memo. And what a palaver to reset the damn thing!
