My wife is trying to do a water color featuring a series of boats sailing wing on wing and she is not sure how the reflection of sails or shadows would look in the water... is it light due to reflection or dark due to shadow.

Imagine a scene with the sun below the horizon, but lighting the sky and clouds, wing on wing boats in the foreground on a low wind water (which offers rippled reflections), as the boats just ghost in...

We are "discussing" the colors in the water.

Anyone have any pics which might show just one boat with sails up and sun behind or twilight behind?
