Hi Dan, We just got back to El Cid for the summer.
In Response To: collision course ()

A couple of years ago crossing the Sea I was off watch and Denny saw this ship on RADAR. She tracked it and plotted it's intercept and decided it would pass clear. She then went out on the Radar range only to find a fast moving ship heading right for us 4 miles off. By the time she realized how fast it was moving and that it was heading right for us it was pretty close so she got me up. I was in a dead sleep and it took me a few seconds to realize that I was looking at a white over white and it was really close and coming fast. I had to just stand and hold off doing anything until I was certain of which way to dodge. After a long 30 seconds I turned to port and we passed down his side with plenty of room. We bought a class A AIS soon after. It turned out to be the La Paz ferry. On this crossing we didn't see a ship closer then 25 miles all the way across. I wish Pangas had AIS! Gee, it's great to have Internet again...
