Finally signing the final papers. Will close in a few weeks.
Bought Freedom 40/40. Trading our Freedom 36/36. Took lots of time. First some issues with the boat we are buying.
They agreed to take care of them.
Then the survey of our boat...problems! Most annoying (but not most expensive) is the rudder bearing. We just had the shaft out this winter, and they had to drop the rudder to do so. I asked that the yard check the rudder etc. They said all was well. When we got to her a few weeks ago, there was a scratchy sound moving the wheel. Of course came their survey-rudder bearing problems. Geez I had just been reassured that all was well.
Anyway, they found some other stuff as well.
To make a long story short, the boat we are buying is owned by a yard, and the extra money we are giving them is pretty much at the yard rate, rather than consumer rate to bring the old boat up to snuff, so they deal is now a (more expensive but still a good one) go.
Hope to have her sailing for the 4th of July weekend.
In the meantime, will employ my daughter's boyfriend to do the bottom painting, compound, wax and pretty her up while the yard does the real work.
I am glad to be back to a white gelcoat boat rather than a blue awlgrip that shows every nick etc. Wax is a lot cheaper than repaint!!!
As my wife's name is Joyce (I call her Joycee), we are considering the name Joy-Sea. Is that too hokey??
The dingy is called the Go-P as I would tell the dogs that they were going to pee when I would get them in the dink.
