I've always believed that beyond telling people something about both the boat -- and the person(s) naming it, one of the most overlooked features is what the name conveys over a radio (or cell phone). You only get one chance to make a first impression.
Do you want the person on the bridge of 650 foot freighter to think you're serious -- or do you want to impress the Coast Guard to be impelled to come to your assistance with vigor? You'll spend a bunch of time trying get the spelling right on their damn forms if you get cute with a name. ;^)
I'm always amazed when someone names their motor boat something like '2 Martinis' or 'Wet Dream'...
