My 23 year old Achilles wood floor dinghy will need replacement and I am debating on going with the Avon 310 RIB Lite. While I have been happy with the wood floor Achilles I am thinking it would be nice to eliminate all the pieces to assemble and maintenance. What I like about the Achilles is the ability to lift it onto the dinghy rack myself at the club and also able to fold it up and place in my car at season end. My biggest complaint about current dinghy is a wet ride - this is my number goal when replacing it is to get a drier dinghy. I want to continue to my existing 8 HP 2-stroke Yamaha motor. My typical use is that it is stored on dinghy rack at club when not cruising. When cruising, I store it upside down on foredeck except if I have a short (under 3 hrs) destination and not stormy. What I like about the Avon Lite is that it is only 94 pounds. I am concerned though with the 16" tube size when most other dinghy s tend to have 17". Any comments from anyone familiar with the Avon Lite and my intended use?
