The instructions that came with my Lopos clearly said to pot the connections in silicone.

Not to say that is a perfect solution, but it has worked on 4 of the five lights on my boat. The red one on the bow went intermittent last year, don't know if it was wiring or the light, but Lopo replaced it without question and the new one has the wiring pigtail as you describe.
