You threw me off with the 'point and shoot'
I was looking at the specs on the Nikon. It's not a 'point & shoot' but much more. The 10X optical zoom is a good feature and Nikon has always made a good product. With all the features of the Nikon, for myself, If I'm going to use one on a boat it will be a waterproof and shockproof one.
Personal feeling is that if you're going to get one with a 10X zoom it should be an 'single lens reflex' with manual override. That would mean that you need two of them. A point and shoot waterproof/shockproof one and,, a Single lens Reflex with 10X optical zoom and manual override.
That Nikon does look like a nice camera though.
