Yeah, River Forest Manor was a classic, alright…

Hi Jeremy,

I stopped there to catch a World Series game on my very first trip, way back in the days when a TV was actually a rarity on a boat… I may have actually had to make a phone call from shore, as well – hard to believe such times ever existed, eh?

That smorgasbord was legend, how they trotted that thing out 365 days a year in a place like Belhaven was a miracle… Of course, some of those offerings were in roughly the same condition as some of the stuffed trophies hanging on the wall, the head of a big buck that was missing one of its glass eyes, for example… Gotta love the sort of place that boasted among its list of famous guests, the two most distinguished were Teddy Roosevelt, and Twiggy… LOL!

Just so happens, I stopped in Belhaven a few weeks ago… Sounds like River Forest is REALLY struggling now, and closure in the near future seems imminent - docks in very poor condition, etc... (I haven't stopped there in many years, however - can't personally confirm that, only what I've heard from others) They don’t even sell fuel anymore, and seems they’ve pissed off a number of transients lately by luring them in with the promise of cheap dockage and fuel, then they wind up having to backtrack to Dowry Creek to get fuel…

Sad to see such iconoclastic places like River Forest disappearing from the Waterway, which is quickly morphing from a trip along old Route 66, to just another slog down I-95…

Best regards,

Jon
