Assuming that it ever stops snowing, I'm headed down to the boat on Saturday to pull the Groco head out. I was down this past weekend putting the main cabin back together after refinishing the sole and varnishing all the teak. The doors and drawers are back in place. The new CD player and speakers are in as well.
The fresh water tank is still holding the 2 gallons of antifreeze I put in, on the advice of the group I did not use the battery charger to try and power up the pump.
I also noticed that there was another puddle of antifreeze around the base of the head, no idea exactly where it is coming from so that is this weekend's project. I need to pull the discharge hose and and get the head out of there. Just the words "removing the head" makes me run through a series of ugly scenes at 30* in a shrinkwrapped boat. Having never done this, I assume that everything in the discharge hose and head will come out as soon as that clamp is loose. Anyone have any tips on how to minimize the mess? I figure quick hand work jamming rags into both the hose and head outlet?
The plan? Well, I know that Peggie said I should remove and replace, however $400 vs $68 for a rebuild/upgrade kit seems to be the way to go right now. I also like the idea of using the same mounting holes and not having to replumb the system. That may prove to be a poor choice in the future.............but then that would be just another poor choice on the long list of poor choices I have made
