Cruising Sailors Forum Archive

Peter M, thanks for recommending Bound for Roque Island.

Nice book about coastal Maine, a sailing family, and best of all, the joy of sailing. Anybody who has sailed with their family will enjoy a look inside the dynamics onboard another boat. And there's also the personal bond of a boat and it's owner that's a single handing relationship.

Then if you love sailing the coast of Maine, the book chapters it's way through what some would say are Maines most beautiful cruising areas.

R.J. Rubadeau of course has some opinions on what works best out there after a lifetime on the water. He also has an interesting way of explaining why the coast of Maine holds him captive, and it's part of the plot inside.

It's an interesting story of a mans sailing life, past and present, well sewn up.

It jogged my memory of where I saw the authors boat. I photographed DOG STAR in Northeast Harbor a couple seasons ago. A beautiful boat. A Philip Rhodes design from the 30's I believe. Just as fantastic a family cruiser today.
