Couple years ago we were camping in Yellowstone...
In Response To: We do that ()

In August... We were doing a longish trip, and had left several weeks earlier from So Cal... with basically shorts and T shirts and our +40 sleeping bags and tent. I had no idea it would/could snow in Yellowstone, IN AUGUST! (did I mention that this was August...)

We went through some different ideas trying to stay warm at night... couple things that worked... one, keeping your clothes in the sleeping bag, at your feet, but NOT wearing them. I know this sounds counter-intuitive, but it works. The other idea was to take a warm rock from the fire pit and wrap it in a towel and put it in the foot of the sleeping bag... heaven. The wife thought that was the best idea yet. Pick your rocks carefully.

BTW the days were nice and warm... it was only the nights and mornings that were terribly cold... on the last day there, everything was covered with ice and snow... I couldn't get the tent poles apart, (frozen together) so we threw them, as a whole unit, into the truck and took off... the tent still somewhat hanging from the poles... and defrosting and dripping everywhere. Our next stop was central Utah, and considerably warmer. GRIN
