After watching this light storm and photographing it, and basically self studying mooring failures over the last 25 or so years, I am sure glad I use Chafe Pro. The stuff is nearly bullet proof and lets your pendants get wet and remain cool to minimize the melting of the fibers. Hoses or waterproof sleeves like lined fire hose can cause failures due to heat and lack of cooling.
I once inspected a beached boat after a storm with rubber hose used as chafe protection. The hose was still hanging off the bow stuck in the chock and not chafed all the way through but the three strand pendant had melted and failed inside the hose despite no break in the chafe hose..
