Remember when working with a long bury that you have the option of inserting a stiff fish-wire (if using coat hanger wire, make sure the end is polished or smooth so it it doesn't snag fibers) from the exit point to the entry point, then attaching the tail that you want to pull through. It's often easier than pushing a fid. I like to use 3M electrical tape for temporary attachments like that -- it's smooth and the 3M brand tape's adhesive doesn't tend to goo things up like cheaper no-name brands.
