Instead of fuses, we use

() large capacity Blue Sea breakers
They are enough for the starter circuit, our large 160 AMP alternator etc.
We ahd fuses, but they blow and are expensive to replace.
Breaker on start battery is 3" from positive terminal, and alternator about a foot.
