where I live on land (Napa, California) you can literally plan a picnic for anytime between May and October three years from now, and be 98% sure it will be a nice sunny day. It does not rain in the dry season, the only planning you do for the weather is don't go camping after November without a tent. Makes the weather forecaster's job pretty easy. But it is quite a shock for this California Farm Boy to see what the rest of the country has to put up with.....
Just as shocking is the wind. I grew up sailing on San Francisco Bay. You can sail all year, but between April and October, you are going to get a west wind 15 - 20 or 25 every day starting no later than 10 AM, and dropping about dusk to 5 - 10. 9 days out of 10, same boring pattern. 1 day out of 10 a little stronger or weaker. About 3 or 4 times a year usually spring or fall, a strong north wind for 3 days. Then back to west. In the Great Lakes and Canadian Maritimes it was west, south, east, north, too light, too strong, accompanied by lightening, etc. Makes a guy almost want a powerboat!
Alright, I am stirring the pot a little . We do after all, get the odd earthquake.
