Actually, a Sunfish doesn't need any charts. It hardly draws anything and the daggerboard is retractable. They sail good in light air and can plane in a stiff breeze. It would be fun to sail a long distance, but he'll have to watch the tides and currents, and he'll have to be really, really good to get through Hell Gate.
