Another LINK 20 question ...

... my L20 is accumulating Ah with the House Bank, it seems to be calculating and reading just fine for my Start Bank. I have (3) Lifeline 150Ah batteries for my House, and (1) Lifeline 150Ah battery for the Start, my batteries are relatively new, a year old. But I had the same problem with my previous set of batteries. I have a TruCharge 40A charger and a 125 HO Alternator. We move around quite a bit while cruising, we try to sail and not motor (imagine that), so I can go for weeks without a long motor or bringing the batteries to 100% charge. We also use a Honda generator to charge the batteries. We don't use that much Ah, we have 12V refrigeration but we also have Sea Frost Engine Drive, and since we are moving often with the engine on from time to time, our Ah use probably averages around 60 Ah/day, and I rarely see my batteries go below 12.4V. When we are sailing, I will combine the House and Start banks via the 1-2-BOTH switch so we effectively have a 600Ah bank (I watch my batteries like a hawk, if something were to discharge enough that I can't start, I can always runs the Honda to charge).

I reset the Peukert Expo to whatever it is Lifeline and Xantrex told me to do, maybe 1.1, can't recall, did this for both banks. If 2-3 weeks go by without a full charge by way of plugging-in or long motor, I will accumulate Ah on the House Bank only. For instance, my voltages may be reading 12.6 or so, my House says 160Ah out (35%) while my Start will read 15Ah out (10%).

If we get diesel I will often plug in for a few hours, have lunch, get groceries, whatever, to bring my batteries up to full charge and then the L20 will reset and be fine for a week or so, I have also from time to time manually reset the L20. I looked at the install, which was not done by me, and it was NOT done per the instructions, so I am wondering if this might be the problem ? First, there is not a twisted pair running from the Shunt for the House, but there is for the Start. Secondly, there are no wires connected on the Battery side of the Shunt other than to the Bat NEG for the Start, however, there are a couple other load wires connected to the battery side of the Shunt (in addition to the bat wire) for the House. Could these things be causing me problems ? As mentioned, the monitoring for the Start battery seems to be working perfectly fine, but not so for the House ... and while on the boat, I have the two banks combined.

thanks, cheers, John
