So in June I sail Lucia to Newport from my (now) home port of Miami to avoid all the hurricane issues and what do I get?
My boat is now at Brewers Cove Haven in Barrington, RI, where it is in most capable hands. Everything got stripped and if they can, it will be hauled. Take it from a Florida veteran, just rolling up the head sail so that it won't unravel is not the trick set up. Some small part of it will certainly unravel and then it will shred. It is always worth the effort to take it down. If you chose not to strike the main, then take a long line and wrap it like a sausage. Looking at the Commander's Weather track, Glen Cove should be exactly in Irene's path. Surge is going to be the big enemy as on the eastern side of the storm track, Commander's is talking about 8 to 12 feet! Yikes.
