I may be too late for a good spot but I suspect there will be room. If not, I'll have time to check a few more. A little like musical chairs, I feel lucky today...
It's all a matter of attitude I guess. I spoke to a Canadian friend that summers here about moving his boat. He said with a disgusted look "Nah, I don't really care. My boats insured for 15k and on todays market, I doubt I could get 5 k for it",... I laughed out loud and walked away. A pure business decision.
There out on the harbor, many boats yesterday were still sitting of course. The full onslaught of Irene Emergency Prep was underway as the travelift began stacking boats along the Goose River. There were still hauling long after hours and will continue today. I was more concerned to see a few lobster boats hauled than the yachts that are following insurance advice.
I asked the local schooner folks what they planned. They have a storm mooring way out that gives them protection from the SE winds. They'll keep her there, lucky to have that spot.
Winds will generally be from that direction. My concern is when they go south in the middle of the storm, and gust to 65 knots. I often set my AP for 000 coming into Rockport from the mouth of Penobscot Bay.
Good luck Dave, we'll both be fine and may see you next week.
