The summer has been relatively cool, and we've only had a few good bright weekends, otherwise the coastal cloud cover has given the area a "wet blanket."
The last couple of weekends have been a bit nicer and the forecast into our October fire season month is that there may be more clearing. The water is flat, wind speeds are somewhat light at 8-10 kts, but the combination means you can still get out there and have fun.
If however we see monsoonal rains going into October (very very rare) the fire season is over and water activities will pretty much cease.
Where I ocean swim, the change has been remarkable... school started a couple of weeks ago, so no more families on the beach. Lots of parking. But the only visitors tend to be "geriatric" in nature, and they tend to slowly walk and look.
We don't haul out around here, it just gets real quiet down at the docks. Good time to break out the power tools however, and get work done without worrying about disturbing the neighbors and before the winter rains come along.
I've got brightwork to varnish (have not been able to as the fog comes in and wets everything down) and hatches to rebed.
