Sailing "directions"...

Since we cruise the Bahamas from mid-November to late May, we have found it very beneficial to let the wind dictate most of our travels. Last year we really tried to only move where the find was favorable. Many times it was strong, but the right direction. That also meant that we would stay put if the wind was extremely light. We spend lots of time in the Jumentos and Ragged Islands and move around quite a bit. We usually don't stay on one anchoring for more than 5-7 days. That's just the way we like it...not for everyone...which makes it even that much better for us! Last year we traveled more miles and used at least 150 fewer hrs on the engine than previous years. It was more pleasant and obviously less cost and wear and tear. Once you have a schedule, all bets are off. When you need to be somewhere at a certain time, you are bound to motor into wind and waves...law of nature.
