I spotted another Tam O' Shanter in Rockport Harbor.

On a Welshmen no less. Rockport draws a wide range of people from away(this is at the Rockport boat club).

My post is about listening to the mans sailing experiences out of the EU over many decades over this past Thanksgiving dinner we enjoyed with them. His experiences revolved around much heavier sailing conditions. Having sailed a lot between Aus and and NZ as well as more exposed coasts, he's used to getting onboard, strapping in, and being at sea for longer periods than I'm used to(and in smaller boats than the average here)

Of great interest to us, he talked of chartering boats on the east coast of GB and sharing the cost with friends, at times even strangers that had little sailing experience. From there, they'd cross the "channel" for a few days on the coast of France, just 60 miles away. Never mind the weather, the shipping traffic sounds terrifying. West coast of Scotland sounds magnificent. They have a lot to choose from in a small area.

He's also crossed the Atlantic as crew with a family of 3 on a 32'er. Of late, he and his wife take advantage of nearby charter areas like Croatia. They're slowing down these days,...

While he regaled us with his past, we played a slide show of years of sailing here on the east coast, mostly Maine. He was mesmerized with so much placid water and the calmer sailing available to us. He wants to sail here.

Quite a difference. We look forward to taking them sailing here in the future.
