SW corner of Newfoundland, it was my landfall/first anchorage there a couple of years ago...

...it's a very pretty area, but the scenery becomes considerably more dramatic as you move further east along that coast...

Here's another shot from the same area, another spot called Mickle's Tickle, with the community of Isle aux Morts nearby... a rather large town by NF south coast standards, as it is one of the last linked by road to Port aux Basques...

You'd love it up there, Phil - some awesome rock climbing opportunities, among other things...

Funny you mention Hunter S. Thompson... I recently read a letter in CARIBBEAN COMPASS from Don Street, recounting a passage he made on IOLAIRE years ago from the Virgins to Bermuda years ago with Thompson aboard as crew... Needless to say, he was most definitely NOT very impressed... (grin)
