I don't know if the AIS could go into the course computer.

I had a very old course computer before (1990) and put in a Brookhouse MUX. I think the CC NMEA are a different baud rate than the AIS - 9600 vs 38400 if my old memory is correct. It wouldn't hurt to give it a try...
