History shows Belfasts wooden downtown mostly burned to the ground 
In Response To: Much of Portland's Old Port is said to have been built with ballast bricks ()
toward the end of the 19th century(1870's). They rebuilt with bricks. That's the history of downtown Camden as well and likely many places that wooden buildings shared walls in downtowns. Must be a hell of a fire when a downtown burns.
