The stories I read were quite sketchy: they indicated that there were gale-force winds and that the engine had failed. Would that be cause enough to capsize a boat this size? Suppose that the engine failed and the boat assumes a position broadside to the waves - could the windage alone cause her to capsize?

It's interesting that in the story on her design which you shared, Jon, there was not a single word about safety. Indeed, there wasn't even a single word about the design chacacteristics!
