I think that the racer's dictum of weight reduction would be a discipline that could be relaxed a bit, but would be useful.
If you simply look a the davits, arches, stuff stored tied on the deck, etc. you can get a feel for the boat.
I really am not a very good example (as with most that offer critisim). I have 250' of 3/8" HT chain, another 100' of 3/8" HT chain; and another 50' of 1/4" HT chain in our anchor / sail locker. Then theres the Avon Rover Air Floor dingy, seats, etc. which is another 100 pounds.
If I were racing...10' of chain on two rodes. Dingy would be off. Voila - 300 or more pounds out of the bow. I won't even talk about the 65# CQR.
