you will very quickly outlive your "tour" of the town in Marsh Harbor. The Abacos are definitely different from much of the rest of the Bahamas. When the wind is honking, the sailing is easy and fun there and you never have to be holed up avoiding a wet bash. I found the spear fishing and conching excellent in the Abacos - which was opposite of what everyone told me it would be. Certainly, I did not find it all "fished out" and found conch everywhere.
Well, not in the places everyone parks their boat in and stays for 4 months.
So you have to get away from Marsh Harbor and Great Guana. We saw no point to Hope Town other than the view from the lighthouse, although the shear number of people we met with that place on their "bucket list" surprised us. We enjoyed the "ends" of the Abacos a lot - get down to the Little Harbor end and poke around in spots along Lynyard Cay and the surrounding area. Dinghy into Little Harbor and have a look around, but the place's draw as a long term destination escaped us and we were happier not being in the crowd there. Tahiti Beach is a very pretty spot and makes a nice place to take a long walk into Hope Town for a look around with good scenery the whole way - if you get tired on the way back, just stick out your thumbs and someone will give you a ride. On the other end of the Abacos, we enjoyed Manjack, Allens-Pensacola, Great Sale and others around there. The beach on the back side of Manjack is amazing. What draws everyone to Green Turtle for months on end escaped us, although we did enjoy one day walking around the town. The other place that everyone made a "bucket list" beeline to was Treasure Cay. That placed annoyed and escaped us also.
But mostly, we seemed to enjoy those parts of the Abacos few others did and did not like those parts everyone raves about.
