The damn bird was standing on top of the wind point indicator which was bending about 30 degrees down. I tried to get him to fly away but he just wouldn't. We tried shaking the rigging, beating on the mast, shaking the spinnaker halyard but all to no avail.

After that we decided it deserved to die. It didn't and in the end I think that the only area that would have killed it was to hit it in the head. I hit it right in the breast. The bird just kind of shrugged waiting about 10 seconds to decide to fly away.

As humans we kill all kinds of things in the name of protecting our assets. I generally don't like indiscriminate killing but he bird was inconsequential and did have the ability to leave. It was just being an asshole.
