ROCKY, a 19' CD Typhoon, was donated to our local boat club. This spring, members painted(check out the green toe rail and yellow coamings, why not?). A new set of sails were built just down the street. ROCKY got some good stuff.
I watched these friends that live nearby, don't own a boat, take him out. "All sheets to the wind" is how they started as ROCKY drifted nicely broadside at a stable heel, until they figured out the rigging, etc(I kept an eye on them from my mooring). In no time, they were reaching back and forth in outer Rockport Harbor.
Soon after they came in under main threading the harbor as I rowed to the docks. The son has the only sailing experience and helmed safely through the harbor. He brought ROCKY up into the wind to catch the mooring, and his dad grabbed the stick. It was a family triumph the likes of which sailing can deliver especially at the beginning level. These are proud smiles(they don't care about sheets in the water yet, that's refreshing).
